TomTom One Update

OK, it’s been a while since I purchased my TomTom One GPS, and I can definitely say that I like it!

I purchased the official case for it directly from TomTom to keep it safe. A little pricey at $20, but still worth it.

I also purchased a 2Gig SD card to give me some extra space. This was well worth it since TomTom recently came out with a map update. Two versions of the USA map are available on the DVD. If you have 1.4Gig spare on your card, you can opt for the more comprehensive North American Map which has a lot more POI’s compared to the standard USA & Canada map.

The new maps have shown a couple of flaws though: Roads exist on the map that don’t exist in real life. Also, one route took me on a South bound exit and told me to take a sharp left instead of taking the north exit.

Tomtom One New Edition

I've Owned my Tomtom One unit for a little over a week now.

Apart from one small issue, when I somehow lost all of the custom POI's that I had entered, I have to say I am very happy with it.

The unit is very compact. It will easily slip into a jacket or trouser pocket without causing a limp!

At 3.5" the colour touchscreen is clear and bright, making data entry & navigation nice & easy.

There are a couple of small issues:
  1. The unit ships with a1 gig SD card & the maps for USA along with POI's & voices leaves a whopping 7.5mb free. Not really a lot of space for your own stuff. My first recommendation would be to get yourself a 2gb card and keep the original 1gb somewhere safe as a backup.
  2. Although effective, the windshield mount is small and not very flexible. My only option using it was to place it at the top of the windshield next to the rearvieaw mirror. Placing it any lower meant that it was out of reach. I was hoping that RAM Mounts had a cradle, but there isn't one available yet.
More soon!
